Professional development opportunities can be transformational for faculty on their academic journey, but some of the traditional workshop models used can be ineffective. Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) provide faculty new opportunities to collaborate and reflect on teaching practices, in an effort to enhance student learning and improve upon their own self-efficacy. This session will provide a brief insight into the establishment and continuous improvement of a PLC at a small community college in rural South Carolina. Participants will leave the session with a new appreciation for PLCs, and some tips and tricks to use at their own institutions.

Certificate and CEUs for Webinars
Learners will have the option to earn a certificate of attendance or a certificate with Continuing Education Units (CEU) upon completion of the webinar. To earn a certificate with CEUs, the learner must successfully pass the learning assessment with a score of 80% or higher. All learners must complete the post-event evaluation to earn credentials.

Erin Bloom graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Austin Peay State University in Clarksville, TN and returned to Austin Peay to complete her Master of Science degree as well. Her thesis resulted in the formal description of a new crayfish species found at Fort Campbell, on the Tennessee and Kentucky border. After graduating with her masters, Erin was an Assistant Professor of Biology at Volunteer State Community College in Gallatin, TN, where she taught a variety of science classes. During her tenure there, she was also the Coordinator of our Teaching and Learning Center.
